I have been a member since 2005. I always say that BNI is about opportunities. One of my favorite BNI moments is when I was given an opportunity to "help" another member at a 2 day tradeshow. The member's business partner and spouse was going thru a serious medical problem and they needed extra hands. Well, this was a very long tradeshow with thousands of attendees. Not only did I get to learn first hand about the member's product and services by spending a day in the life of..(or 2 days in the life of), I also managed to network with the other exhibitors. One exhibitor in particular was right next to our booth and we managed to bond during that weekend. This has resulted in one of my best clients. She happened to be the Manager of one of Vancouver's most popular restaurants and weddings are their business. She now referrs all of her corporate and wedding clients to my company. It also turned out that one of her good friends is also mine! So doing a good deed for another by chance, gave me an opportunity to really know another person's business as well as grow my own.

I was recently inducted (May 18/11) into BNI Unique. The experience from the first meeting I attended has been totally positive and uplifting. Changing the way the WORLD does business is such a true statement and a worldwide bonus for BNI members.
Being a member now going onto my 3rd year with BNI in Ontario, Canada, I have had the priviledge to hook up with driver trainers around the world joining their groups so that shared ideas, brainstorming, latest info etc can be shared worldwide.
Recently I posted a comment on how concept vehicles will eventually come out onto the market where they drive themselves. As you know some vehicles already parallel park themselves, so it's not out of this world. I posted because I needed to know if other parts of the world were already using or heard anything about them and the amount of people involved on that one comment certainly lets me know we are one even miles apart.
I love BNI for giving me the opportunity to connect with not only amazing people in our own chapter, but others within the province, country and world-wide.

I have had the pleasure of re-joining the BNI Huronia Chapter at the beginning of March, after a short hiatus away from the group due to personal reasons. I must tell you that I have enjoyed the reunion immensely! The amount of support that I have received from the Huronia Chapter members has been so positive and invigorating. I have been re-inspired to look at my business at a different level by leveraging the power of referral marketing. I want to take my business to new heights and I know that the Huronia Chapter will help me meet my goals.

Operating a business for more than 9 yrs, and relocating it to Chatham/Kent region a year ago, I honestly can say, being a BNI member with the classic Communicators in Chatham has opened my eyes to a community that sticks together. I've been involved before local Chamber of Commerce's, Barter Groups, and local regional business groups and nothing, absolutely nothing compares with this BNI group in Chatham. These people are truly god sent, each having their own unique way of creating a safer, more productive world in their profession-a true team.

The CD, book and exercises layed out in the booklet I received as a new member truly works. Easy to understand, easy to do. Even the BNI website is easy to move around in.

For those people considering BNI, remember that one referral leads to another. A referral I received 4 years ago from one of our original members has, to this point, resulted in 4 transactions. The original client was very happy with my services so they referred me on to someone they knew, who referred me on to someone they knew. "Spin off" referrals mean that the number of referrals you actually get every year can increase exponentially. If it were not for BNI, I would never have had the nerve or idea to start my own business when I was laid off from my "day job".
I was only commuting to this city to work, not even a resident here, when my "employer " asked me to sub at a meeting for her. One meeting and I was hooked! I knew this was a community I wanted to live and work in. As fate would have it I was laid off shortly after I relocated, but voila here I am self employed and loving it; in a warm community surrounded by my supportive BNI chapter members. Avant de devenir membre de BNI, j'ai visité plusieurs chapitres à Montréal. Lors de ces visites, j'ai distribué des centainres de cartes d'affaires. Avant de devenir membre, j'ai reçu un appel téléphonique d'une personne qui m'avait rencontré lors d'un des déjeuners quelques semaines auparavant. Cette personne m'a donné une référence qui est devenu un contrat d'entretien commercial d'un valeur de 30 000 par année.

Qu'est-ce que j'ai fait pensez-vous? J'ai joint BNI West Island One. We have been members of BNI since 2001 - Prior to joining BNI we advertized our products in the traditional ways. Radio, TV, Newspapers, flyers etc. As a start up company this was a great deal of money spent, about 60K the first year or more with very little success with limited tracking ability. Additionally the cost of production/printing and distribution was stagering. We can honestly state that since becomming a BNI member we have saved the majority of the dollars stated above and have realized sales directly from BNI from $50,000.00 our first year to $128,000.00 this past year and it continues to grow. We are now working on 4th and 5th generation referals.

An additional benifit has been the opportunity to meet and do business with those that provide services to small business. For example our accountant, printer, computer, insurance, hardware/software, lawyer etc. are all BNI members and they have all provided great service and products. Yes they have saved us money , but more importantly they have provided us with great service and a comfortablility that you just cannot find on the streets. On a personnal level my hairstylist, chiropractor, health products etc. are also BNI people.

We are involved in two BNI organizations and wish to be in more, so much so that is company policy for all staff to belong to and be active within BNI (especially sales)
Should I be asked if BNI is worth the membership and time involved for new or established business, the answer would be.

Je suis fière d'être membre du BNI Gatineau. Étant adjointe virtuelle, une nouvelle profession qui offre du soutien administratif aux chefs de petites et moyennes entreprises, il n'a pas toujours été facile d'expliquer comment je peux soutenir des entrepreneurs sans être sur place. I have been a proud member of BNI since October 2001, and can honestly say that BNI has changed my life. When I joined, I was shy, terrified of public speaking, could not network a room, and was your typical ‘wall flower”

Five years ago, I would never have imagined I could do what I am doing today. The positive encouragement and mentoring I have received from my BNI colleagues has helped bring me out of my shell, and I am now a far more confident person. I was encouraged to take positions on the Meridian Chapter Leadership Team, and although I doubted my abilities, my colleagues believed I could do it, and I have held all positions except Secretary/Treasurer (President, Vice President, Membership Committee, Event Co-Ordinator, Education Co-Ordinator, Visitor Host). I have also been a BNI Ambassador, and am currently the Assistant Area Director for BNI Southern Vancouver Island, and a member of the BNI Gala Committee.

Every position has challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, and this has helped me grow stronger as a person and a business woman. My business has benefited not only from the referrals I receive from BNI, it has also benefited by my increased confidence and assurance. Friends and colleagues say they remember the quiet, unsure woman of five years ago, and can’t believe the transformation.

I am a fairly recent BNI member, having only joined in March of this year (2006), however, I have already seen my business grow significantly as a result. A week ago I received an email from a Vancouver based Computer company. They had a client who needed a wireless network checked out and that it would probably require two visits (one to discern what was wrong and another to bring the required hardware to replace what was defective and fix it) they felt it would not be cost effective to dispatch someone from their company in Ottawa to go do a service call in Kingston. Being a BNI member in Vancouver they decided to look at what BNI members were in Kingston and contacted me. Now as a result I have been given some incremental work that definitely is a result of my membership in BNI and my listing on the BNI website it will hopefully turn into a lasting relationship where I can service the support contracts they have in this area increasing my business and saving them money. I have been a member since 1997. I came from 26 years at Northern Telecom as Manager of production. Restructuring in the 90's helped me to change my focus. I accepted a sales position with my current company (NAL PATH Insurance Brokers) in 1993. In 1997 when I joined BNI I had 450 clients. Today I have over 1100 clients, 90% as a result of BNI. I have qualified for trips to Hawaii, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and a Carribean Cruise all as a result of sales thanks to BNI.

The largest deal that our company has ever seen came from a lead from one of my BNI members. Anyone reading this from the Insurance industry will agree that $91,000.00 for one deal is nice business. The best part is that this business repeats itself every year.

Is BNI worth it? It is for me because I believe that the more you put in to it, the more you will get out of it.

When I was first introduced to BNI, I viewed it as just another networking group looking for members that would probably not offer much in return. I was changing my business focus from systems support of computer hardware and software to web design and development. Within 6 months of joining, I had a good core client base, all BNI referred. I joined BNI in 2003 because I recognized that it could have a positive impact on our nutritional supplement business.

For anyone who knows me, I am a numbers cruncher, therefore I am always aware of our monthly sales figures. During the first six months of membership in BNI, I noticed no significant increase in our sales figures. However about 6 months later in January of 2004, we received our single greatest sales increase ever! According to the January report, our sales increased by 43%.

It requires a high amount of consumer education to promote our specific product line of carbohydrate technology supplements. It took about 6 months to educate the chapter members of the benefits of our products. Through informercials, presentations and dance cards, the quality referrals began to come in from the chapter members and this reflected in our sales figures.

BNI has been the best advertising investment our company has ever made. Being in business since 1989 let me tell you we have used all kind of advertising strategies; flyer distribution of many kind, magnets, newspaper, phone books, trade show and more. The BNI format is oriented to make you talk about what you do if you are too shy to face the people and in time it will give you the confidence to talk in public about your business. The referal are true business oportunities and worth being at the meeting at 7 a.m. once a week. I have received fantastic information for my business and my personal life which I would not have solicited because I did not know. It saved us money and it made our company prosper in many ways.
